Kobe may miss China Games with injury
The Shanghai Sports Bureau and NBA China said yesterday that the tickets for the 2013 NBA China Games in October will go on sale from tomorrow but doubts remain over Kobe Bryant’s participation in the event.
The Los Angeles Lakers will play the Golden States Warriors in Shanghai and Beijing but the Lakers All-Star may have to sit out the games.
Bryant said he was way ahead of schedule in recovering from a ruptured Achilles’ tendon.
The scheduled time timetable for recovery is typically six to nine months. Bryant, who was injured in April against the Warriors, suggested that he could be ready in time for the training camp in September.
“The surgical procedure was different ... and because of that the recovery has been different,” Bryant said recently on tour in China, according to NBA.com. “The normal timetable for recovery from an Achilles, we’ve shattered that.
“Three-and-a-half months I can already walk just fine, I’m lifting weights with the Achilles just fine and that’s different. So we don’t know what that timetable is going to be. It’s kind of new territory for us all.”
The organizers said he will be present with the team in the Chinese cities in October.
Other star players to watch out for are Steve Nash and Pau Gasol of the Lakers and Stephen Kerry and Harrison Barnes of the Warriors.
It is the seventh time that NBA is holding its pre-season games in China.
“We expect tickets to sell well this year,” said David Shoemaker, the CEO of NBA China, after the success of last year’s games between Miami Heat and Los Angeles Clippers.
“This time we have the Lakers and the Warriors.”
Beijing will stage the first game on October 15 followed by Shanghai on October 18.
Fans can buy tickets at Damai.cn website and on online store nbastore.tmall.com. Others can dial 4006103721 to get their tickets.
The cheapest ticket is 200 yuan. About 40 percent of the tickets are priced below 500 yuan to attract more fans.
