Casual, cool and comfortable
HIDDEN between Hunan Road and Wuyuan Road, Yongfu Road is a quiet, lovely street that is dotted with old villas, platane trees, lifestyle shops, restaurants and upscale clubs. On the section between Hunan Road and Fuxing Road West, there is an interesting mix of architectural gems from the 1920s and 30s, a private dining and leisure club YongFoo Elite, a tiny Italian delicatessen, a lifestyle store and a tucked-away fashion boutique. But a year ago, things changed on the other side. Since Willy Trullas opened El Coctel on the road, this area saw many new additions to the fleet and became one of the trendiest places for style-conscious people looking for a decent drink or a casual dinner in one of the new outlets.
Gourmet Fine Italian Food and Wine – deli delights
Opened in 2007, this tiny Italian delicatessen is a neighborhood shop selling Italian food and wine specialties. It features a selection of quality authentic Italian food products such as Galantino organic extra virgin olive oil, Loison traditional Christmas cake and Pasta Jesce's regional pasta from Apulia. Regarding the wine selection, the shop carries 23 labels from the Campania region, 18 labels from Apulia, eight labels from Veneto and four labels from Toscana. The price range here starts from 20 yuan (US$3) for pasta to over 2,000 yuan for famed wine from Toscana. At the moment, the shop is involved in a Sannio (a wine area in Campania region) wines promotion, a project called Vi.SA.S promoted by the Wine Agricultural Organization. It is a lovely neighborhood gourmet shop with tastes and prices for all.

Anya – sensual skincare
Harsh winds plus indoor heating worsen skin conditions so a skincare survival guide and reinforcing yang energy in the winter months is vital. The first impression of Anya Massage and Spa on Yongfu Road is urban, hip and futuristic with bright furnishings and bold art pieces. It presents a distinctly contemporary ambience and has 15 treatment rooms. A head and shoulder massage (70 yuan/35 min) or an aromatherapy massage (238 yuan/60 min) is a wonderful way to relive stress. Anya uses organic essential oils from Austria and facial and spa treatment products from cosmetics brand Fairlady. 2C Energy Booster Facial (480 yuan/90 min) is a popular facial treatment in the winter season that will get rid of unwanted toxins and help restore the skin.
The Apartment – loft life
The Apartment is a restaurant and lounge bar tucked away on the third floor of an authentic former warehouse building. Inspired by the ambience of New York or London-style lofts, the interior is a lofty, artsy space with distinctly industrial-bohemian style. The bar area is comprehensively stocked with an array of draught and bottled beer, as well as spirits and wines from around the globe. With the sumptuous colors and light, the glass-enclosed dining room is perfect for a group of friends or a big family, while the lounge area is the place where you feel like getting "couched up." The most appealing part of The Apartment is probably the rooftop terrace with views of the amazing skyline through the green treetops. The restaurant and lounge is introducing a new menu that reflects a modern American kitchen in cities such as New York and Los Angeles: American foods that have authenticity and tradition, done well in a modern and stylish setting and with fresh local ingredients. Mark Baar, who has worked with many famous chefs and been involved in cooking for major events such as Oscar parties and Emmy Awards for high-profile celebrities, takes up his new position as group executive chef for "Collective Concepts" and will bring an innovative new approach to The Apartment.

El Coctel – creative cocktails
The late-night cocktail and wine lounge El Coctel has attracted a loyal following for casual pre and post-dinner drinks since it opened almost a year ago. Willy Trullas, chef and owner of beloved tapas restaurant El Willy, is the man behind this upscale, sophisticated lounge bar on Yongfu Road. The open-plan interior is decked out with plush leather couches, sleek bar area, French windows and an eclectic mix of antique-inspired furnishings and art pieces. The original bar concept marries the best of the classic cocktail renaissance with a time-honored specifically Japanese bar method. The experienced Japanese bartender heads a small team of bartenders and every drink is hand-crafted with fervent attention to detail. With five different categories of drinks, most of the drinks are 77 yuan. El Coctel also features a short but interesting wine selection and the champagne and sparkling range lists favorite producers as well as lesser-found bottlings of boutique vintages. Food is Willy's passion so the bar also offers light meals and bar snacks such as shaved Iberico ham, good cheese and creative toasted sandwiches.
