Concertgebouw Orchestra offers two nights of classical favorites

THE Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra will be in Shanghai for two concerts under the baton of Italian conductor Daniele Gatti at Shanghai Oriental Art Center.

Gatti studied piano and graduated in composition and conducting from the Verdi Conservatory in Milan. He was music director of Royal Philharmonic from 1996 to 2009, and is currently the chief conductor of Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.

The concerts will present Berg’s violin concerto and Bruckner’s Symphony No.4 “Romantic” on January 18, Debussy’s “Prélude à l’Après-midi d’Un Faune” and “La Mer” as well as Stravinsky’s “The Rite of Spring” on January 19.

Dutch violinist Janine Jansen will be performing at the January 18 concert. Coming from a family of musicians, she began to study violin at the age of six. Jansen collaborates with leading orchestras including Berlin Philharmonic, Czech Philharmonic, Vienna Symphony and more. She’s now artist-in-residence with Munich Philharmonics. She plays a 1707 Rivaz-Baron Gutmann Stradivarius.

Considered one of the best in the world, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra was ranked No.1 by Gramophone Magazine in 2016 and is known for its “velvety” string, “golden” brass and “distinctly personal” woodwinds sounds.
