Don't leave home without these apps

WHETHER you are planning a trip or about to pack and head to the airport, this list of top travel apps will offer you some help. The beautiful part of these apps is they save you from lugging around a heavy guidebook or printing out an itinerary before taking off.

Even if you keep your iPhone or iPad in flight mode to avoid receiving incoming calls and emails, you can read previously downloaded information and check maps before you arrive.

Aside from the applications listed below, check apps provided by official tourism boards or councils as they occasionally offer online coupons and other promotions that can save you money.

1. TripAdvisor

While planning a trip, it's essential to get to know more about your destination. Installing TripAdvisor and downloading maps and other information in advance can give you a good introduction. Read the latest reviews by other travelers or learn about some walking tours.

Download the offline map and all other materials for viewing while disconnected from the web.
