Exhibit zeroes in on turbulent era

CHINA'S Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Fund has launched "The Red Memory - Chinaware exhibition in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s."
More than 50 sets of ceramic pieces are on display including bowls and vases. All works are from Jingdezhen, a city known as "the capital of China's chinaware."
The style of ceramic pieces made in Jingdezhen didn't change much through the centuries until the 1960s, when the political, social, economic and cultural atmosphere changed significantly. Art from that period through the 1980s have distinctive features. In addition to traditional depictions of nature and leisure, more works depict political and economic themes.
For example, there are several ceramic plates portraying Chairman Mao Zedong's visits to the militia and working-class people. Two pieces made by Zhu Shouzhi really stand out. One features Mao and the other is of Zhu De, who is considered the founder of the People's Liberation Army.
Some more light-hearted pieces feature scenes of animals, plants and children playing.
Red was given a special and revolutionary meaning in that era, representing passion and a pure sense of mission.
