Exhibits by Dutch artists
ARTCN Gallery launched a new exhibition titled “Hidden Sceneries — Floating Memories” on Thursday. Supported by the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the one-of-a-kind exhibition displays works from Brigitte Spiegeler and Adriaan Rees together, as part of the “Dutch Artists in Shanghai No.3.”
Launched in September 2016, the on-going program aims to introduce and promote both established and emerging young visual artists from the Netherlands to the local audience in Shanghai.
Although the selection of works by the two artists differs much in terms of media, they both explore the ever-changing urban landscape when people are questioning economic, political and spiritual values. The interconnection can be traced through exhibited works, ranging from photographs to ceramic sculptures.
Spiegeler’s works are about an imaginary time. In her own words “a time without a time, a vague with some details popping up, the memory is now, right here, but at the same time endlessly far away and intangible.”
From Amsterdam, Rees opens up a completely new dialogue between time and space through his works, which leads visitors to rethink the values and connections between human being and Earth and life itself.
