Exploring Tomaszewski and the language of art
THE first China solo exhibition of Henryk Tomaszewski (1914-2005), Father of the Polish Poster School, is now ongoing at Shanghai Power Station of Art (PSA) through September 15. As an international graphic designer, illustrator, stage artist, and educator, Tomaszewski was best known for free-hand graphic expressions in a range of his works.
The exhibition will display over 200 Tomaszewski’s original works, including some 40 handcrafted original screen printed posters, more than 100 original prints of book designs, and over 120 illustration sketches exhibited to the public for the first time. Meanwhile, the PSA hosted a psD (power station of Design) workshop “Work without A Computer” and a thematic seminar.
Tomaszewski once said: “We created a new language. It consisted of rejecting narrative description for the sake of advanced conceptual shortcuts based on sequences of images… we replaced an image meant for reading.”
The exhibition will be ideal for anyone who would like to explore a different art language or to know about the artist’s career spanning over 60 years.
Date: Through September 15, 11am-7pm (closed on Mondays)
