Fete de la Musique

THE Consulate General of France is hosting the third Shanghai Fete de la Musique - Festival of Music - this weekend to celebrate the arrival of summer. In addition to various genres of classical and contemporary music, the fete features art exhibitions, classical dance, theatrical arts, literature, films, circus performances and street art.

From 11am, free concerts are being held at more than 20 locations today, featuring local and foreign artists. Venues include Xintiandi, Sinan Mansions, Yuyuan Garden, Duolun Cultural Street, Children's Palace, Daning Commercial Center, Expo Park, Duolun Museum of Modern Art, plus others. A detailed schedule including venues, an English-Chinese map and band information is available at www.faguowenhua.com.

The festival closes with a spectacular live music performance called the "Huge Jam Session," with more than 100 musicians led by John N'Guidjol. This not-to-be-missed event takes place at Mao Livehouse and promises something for music fans of all tastes and ages. Closing concert:
