THE creative and popular Magis brand of products - such as the cute Puppy and Bombo chair - are finally becoming more accessible.
Design Republic has officially launched this prestigious Italian design brand at its Shanghai flagship store.
Many of the signature Magis pieces are displayed, such as the famous Chair_One by Konstantin Grcic, Puppy by Eero Aarnio and Bombo by Stefano Giovannoni.
Magis, established over 30 years ago, is dedicated to the perfect union of creativity and craft in its product design.
Apart from its own highly-diversified design team, Magis also consistently forms partnerships with designers all over the world, including Richard Sapper, Jasper Morrison, Marc Newson and Ron Arad.
The Magis China launch was made even more significant by the presence of one of its partners, Konstantin Grcic, the minimalist master designer from Germany who works closely with the brand.
Grcic's designs are minimal, pure, precise and filled with sensitive and delicate emotion. Each piece is designed with ergonomic sensitivity, combining tradition with humor and wit.
He brought to Shanghai the famous Chair_One he designed for Magis along with his design concepts and experiences.
The classic symbol of Grcic's minimalist style, Chair_One was launched in 2003 under the Magis label. The four-legged stackable version has a seat in die-cast aluminium, treated with sputtered, fluorinated titanium and painted in polyester powder.
Through his minimalist industrial style, Grcic has constructed a form that's statuesque, elegant and hard to forget. The chair is extremely versatile and suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
It won in 2006 Germany's Design Prize Silver and, in 2007, Grcic won the Designer of the Year award from Germany's Architektur&Wohnen.
