Mosaic Creating Class

MOSAIC is a relaxing and enjoyable craft that involves the cutting of glass tiles, the placing and gluing of the tiles into patterns or images and finally grouting the spaces between the tiles to create the typical fractured look of a classic mosaic.

Community Center Shanghai is offering an opportunity to try mosaic art. You do not need to be artistically inclined or skilled, because it can be as simple or as challenging as you want to make it. In fact, simple geometric patterns are often the most strikingly attractive.

Instructor Sue Fleming from Canada will also teach you how to produce beautiful art of your own. She has designed and made pearl jewelry since 2000. In 2006 she learned how to make stained glass. Having moved to Shanghai, she studied the art of mosaic-making - both through courses and teaching herself - and has produced many beautiful pieces.

All course materials and tools are provided. Four classes are required to cut and glue the tiles. On the fifth week, students will grout their mosaic.

Prices are: larger platter, 750 yuan (US$119); four-sided vase, 700 yuan; serving tray, 800 yuan; round mirror, 850 yuan; lazy Susan, 750 yuan; cork bulletin board, 750 yuan.
