National Cultural Heritage Day

TO commemorate the 7th annual National Cultural Heritage Day, Shanghai's 80 historic and cultural attractions and facilities will be open for free today.

Shanghai prides itself on its historical riches, which are among the best-preserved in the nation. The venues with free admission will include Soong Ching Lin Mausoleum, Main Hall of Zhenru Temple, Chen Yun's former residence, and more. The opening hours for all 80 attractions will be from 9am to 4pm.

One-hundred thousand copies of each of the two versions of guidebooks featuring the city's iconic sites and former Shanghai residences of prominent figures in Chinese history will be distributed for free at the attractions. These publications include extensive maps of the city's transport networks and tour route suggestions.

Even after today, the guide books will continue to be made available for free at major Shanghai tourist sites.

In addition to the free tours, the city plans special exhibitions of qipao dresses worn by well-known people including the Soong Sisters and a public opening of Guangfulin archaeological site. Guest speaker lectures on Shanghai's cultural development will be given and television channels will broadcast feature films depicting China's intangible cultural heritage.
