New Swiss range sets standard

SECURITY, personalization, innovation and service are elements that Vacheron Constantin, the world's oldest watch manufacturer, believes to be the quintessence of tomorrow's watchmaking. And the Quai de I'lle collection, the brand's latest model named after its historic Geneva address, was created to meet such demands.

First introduced to the public during last year's Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH), Quai de I'lle soon became one of the most talked-about watch models in the world of ticks and clocks.

Described as "a watch impossible to counterfeit," it boasts interesting features such as a made-to-order case and an innovative dial with highly-advanced security printing technology, which has yet to be applied by any other watch brand.

Most recently, the line was officially introduced to the Chinese market through a gala dinner event in Hong Kong. More than 250 watch enthusiasts and media attended the event at the Four Seasons Hotel.

"Vacheron Constantin has always favored the creation of timepieces with a unique character," said Marc Guten, international director of Vacheron Constantin, at the event. "Quai de I'lle comes with a security system that is revolutionary."

Representing a new and truly pioneering concept, the semi-transparent dials, with four patents pending, not only showcase the complex mechanism inside but also feature state-of-the-art anti-forgery measures, including secret texts, micro-printing, security inks and UV markings using invisible ink. Similar techniques have been employed to create and safeguard passports and currencies.

"Quai de I'lle is very different from other Vacheron Constantin collections as it is a fusion of traditional watchmaking and the sophisticated security features of today and tomorrow," commented Kok-choon Tay, a Singaporean watch enthusiast at the event.

Apart from sophisticated technologies, the unique concept of personalization is another feature that distinguishes Quai de I'lle from Vacheron Constantin's pillar collections, Malte and Patrimony.

It is one watch but it is also many watches. With its innovative case comprising seven main parts, clients can choose from three metals (pink gold, titanium and palladium), three dials (grey, white and black) and two movement finishes (rhodium and ruthenium) to create timepieces that best represent their image.

"Personalization has always been in the horology industry, from limited editions to commissioning of special pieces," Tay said. "However, this personalization concept of Quai de I'lle is very different from others. It has been very well accepted among watch enthusiasts around the world and I believe this can be a trendsetter for other manufactures."

The line consists of two models: the Quai de I'lle Date Self-winding and the Quai de I'lle Day-Date and Power-Reserve Self-winding. Designed, developed and manufactured by Vacheron Constantin, the state-of-the-art movements are coated with rhodium or ruthenium and visible through the dials.

Founded in 1755, Vacheron Constantin is one of the leading watch manufacturers in the world. In October, it launched Vacheron Constatin Maison in an old villa on Shanghai's bustling Huaihai Road M., the second of its kind. The first was founded more than 100 years ago in Geneva in 1906.

The Shanghai maison offers a private retail environment, a full range of watches and a selection of antique pieces, as well as a collectors' salon and service center with a master watchmaker from Geneva to service customers in China.
