Olympics apps that are going for gold
Who won the first gold medal of the London Olympics? What time is track icon Liu Xiang running in the 110-meter hurdles? These are some of the questions being asked by Chinese sports fans.
With mobile devices like iPad and smart phones, games fans can access Olympics news through various apps, anytime and anywhere. In addition to traditional news and video apps - such as those provided by Sina, Tencent and Youku - which have launched Olympics channels, there are specifically-designed apps for the London Olympics.
They cover tourist guides, official information and high-definition video playing and playback features.
As Chinese consumers become increasingly tech-savvy, more and more are choosing to watch sports by computer, iPad and smart phones. The user base of the mobile Internet has surpassed that of personal computer users for the first time in China, the world's No. 1 dot-com market by Internet population, according to the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC).
By the end of June, the number of China's netizens reached 538 million. Among them, around 388 million of the netizens were mobile phone users.
Handset users like surfing online for latest information, watching video and on social networks like Weibo, according to the national-level researcher CNNIC.
