Shanghai International Orchid Show

It's time to shake off any remaining winter torpor and embrace the joys of springtime! And to get in the mood with some colorful and exotic blooms, look no further than the Shanghai International Orchid Show.

The 2013 Shanghai International Orchid Show, covering an area of 15,000 square meters, runs through April 22 in Chenshan Botanical Garden. With more than 50,000 plants representing 1,000 species from 14 countries and regions, plus four themed greenhouses, a visual feast is guaranteed.

As the city's first international orchid show, it features many rare varieties, as well as new breeds never seen here before.

The greenhouses themselves are among the highlights. The interiors of the four glasshouses are designed to resemble tropical rainforest, mountains and valleys, making visitors feel they are experiencing the beauty of the orchids in their natural settings.

Orchid experts from China and abroad will make presentations and there will be international orchid academic forum. Other attractions include photography and calligraphy competitions and charity auctions.

The park has modern public toilets, free car parking and several restaurants.
