Showcasing best of Asian art

THE annual Asian gallery art exhibition, featuring Shanghai-style works, opens Friday at the Shanghai Exhibition Center.

More than 30 galleries from China, Japan, South Korea and Singapore will exhibit more than 600 works, including traditional Chinese painting, oils, sculpture and ceramics.

The 6,000-square-meter area features Shanghai galleries including ShanghART, Hwa's Gallery, Longmen Art Projects, Row Gallery and Bund 66.

The works of famous Shanghai masters will be displayed, including Fu Baoshi's traditional Chinese painting, Tang Yunyu's oil painting and Liu Danzhai's Chinese figure painting.

One highlight is the exhibition of Chen Jialing, a contemporary master of traditional Chinese painting. Combining figures from old Shanghai calendars and traditional paintings, the works present a different view of the city.

The exhibition also showcases the works of young artists in the region.
