SHANGHAI will see its fair share of amazing countdown parties and glamorous concerts for the new year. Here's a roundup of some of the most fun events taking place in the city. You can greet the new year attending a spectacular fireworks display and toasting 2013 with other revelers. 2013 Shanghai New Year's Concert
Conducted by Alan Gilbert, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra will stage a concert to welcome 2013. Expect an act from Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker," symphonic dances from "West Side Story" by Bernstein and "An American in Paris" by Gershwin.

French Musical
The French-language "Romeo & Julliette," based on Shakespeare's classic tragedy, premiered in 2001 and has been widely staged. In the Shanghai performance, the language tends to be more emotional and sometimes actors step out of character and make observations about what's happening in the play. With Chinese subtitles.

World Animation All-star Tour
Children and animation buffs now have a chance to play with their favorite animation characters. Expect Disney stars like Micky Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, Sheriff Woody from the "Toy Story" franchise and Lightning McQueen from "Cars," plus "Transformers" Autobots and Hello Kitty.

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the sinking of Titanic, a world tour stops by Shanghai to showcase more than 300 artifacts salvaged from the debris of the superliner. The exhibition also restores the cabins and deck and a marvelous winding stair in the first-class cabin.

New Year's Eve Countdown
Last year, the fireworks and 3D light show - the first of its kind in the city - lit up the sky over the Huangpu River. This New Year's Eve, a 4D light show will be the centerpiece of celebrations. Thousands of revelers are expected at the Bund, on both the Puxi and Pudong sides of the Huangpu River, for the laser light show featuring people's faces from every corner of China. And of course, festivities wouldn't be complete without a countdown to welcome in the new year.
