Vibrant home full of energy, color

SOME homes just ooze the confidence and energy of their owners. It's clear early into the home of Italian couple Marco and Laura Treggiari that their first love is vibrant color -- especially red. It is liberally used in a house that oozes unique Italian style: bold design, original color schemes, attention to detail, emphasis on quality, and a penchant for creative and unique solutions.

But this energizing environment is further influenced by their avant-garde, healthy way of living. Marco is head of Technogym China, a world-leading Italian company known for its advanced designs and technology used in the production of fitness equipment. The company's founder Nerio Allessandri created a concept he called "wellness" which combined the idea of well being and the pursuit of fitness, a book about which has just been translated into Chinese.

The Treggiaris have signed onto the concept big time and taken the leap of faith by integrating beautifully designed workout machines into their home environment. They have integrated Kinesis Personal training equipment by Antonio Citterio into the living area and there's a Wellness Ball and a Spazio Forma Tread Mill in the master bedroom. "Wellness to happiness" has become their living philosophy.

"Our weekends are often dedicated to sport and relaxing," Marco said. "We play tennis, take our children to the swimming pool, or play football. Saturday morning is traditionally devoted to home exercise," he added.

"We have a quite complete gym in our master bedroom and really enjoy spending a couple of hours together. We pump up the volume of our much loved music selections, our children are with us and I consider them true moments of happiness."

The couple's attention is focused on a philosophical approach to the enjoyment of life while at the same time meeting their existential and practical needs.

The heart of the house is a boldly-hued, open-plan living and dining area, which means there's plenty of space for a dining table.

Lush sofas spread around a voluminous living room richly decorated by luxury accessories that embellish the space and entice any guest to linger longer in a comfortable yet stylish room.

The couple entertains often and wanted the house to function for a group as easily as for a family of five.

In designing the first floor as a series of interconnected spaces that can be joined, Laura created a never ending and pleasurable experience for whoever had the privilege to wander through.

"The house was already in good condition when we moved in," Laura said. "The spaces are great, particularly the living room where we spend most of our free time. To renovate it, which was actually a color-rampage, took around two months.

"But I never stop changing and improving, I like our home to grow with us, to change according to our mood and our sensations," she said.

"Red is the color I like most, therefore our home in Italy - in Treviso, very close to Venice - is also very much red. I didn't want to revolutionize the atmosphere of our home on moving to Shanghai because I know that a red box is what makes my loved ones and me happy."

From the welcoming entrance leading straight to the dining table, opening up to the vast living area, up three steps toward the colorful study and its rich collection of literature pieces and collectible Chinese antiques, to the final destination of the first floor space, the immense open air terrace, this home stimulates all senses.

Visual cues like changes in flooring and wall colors help distinguish areas within the open plan, seamlessly carrying you from one area to the other.

Laura emphasizes "I love beautiful objects. I love fashion and Italian style. My reading of 'Made in Italy' is that Italian designers never forget human nature. They never create products against the human body and its comfort."

This simple but unique rule applies to cars, clothes, fitness equipment, food and interior designs. "It's in our DNA, unique and irresistible. When I decorated our home, this distinctive and exclusive character guided me," she added.

"It is elegant and bizarre enough to have fitness equipment in the living room. If we take a closer look at Kinesis Personal, it has fine and unusual design. Its slick looks could be mistaken for a massive mirror discretely sitting in the most prominent spot of the living room, opening a new perspective to the space. It is hard to distinguish the line between a piece of fitness equipment and a piece of art."

The second floor was designed to create bedrooms for the family, creating a separation between day and night life.

While the first floor is energizing and designed to live in, all spaces on the second floor are more soothing, creating the right atmosphere to relax and wind down.

This is definitely the home of people who live everyday passionately, packing it with meaning and purpose.

"Wherever we stay, wherever we keep the objects we like most, wherever we listen to our favorite music, wherever we display our books or our photos, by exercising in those spaces we simply add happiness to our life," Marco said.
