Zheng returns with oil on porcelain vases

A solo exhibition entitled “Metamorphosis • City • Love” by Shanghai artist Zheng Rongrong is on display at the Xuhui Wanke Center. Featuring oil painting on porcelain vases, Zheng’s recent works represent a mix of Chinese and Western elements.
For the past few years, Zheng kept visiting the porcelain workshops in Jingdezhen, known as China’s “porcelain capital,” in northeastern Jiangxi Province, to acquire the necessary skills in pottery.
“Due to the special texture of porcelain, the color of the oil changes when burning at a temperature of about 3,000 degrees in the kiln. For me, every product is a surprise,” Zheng said.
It is Zheng’s fourth solo exhibition since 2009.
