‘Mozart!’ captures man behind the music
AUSTRIAN musical theater troupe Vereinigte Buhnen Wien will bring their show “Mozart!” to Shanghai this December, in honor of the 260th anniversary of the birth of the show’s namesake.
The musical, created by the dream team of Michael Kunze and Sylvester Levay, sheds light on the world’s most famous composer both as a human being and as a musical legend. Mozart is presented here as an artist of exceptional talent who, in spite of his gift — or perhaps because of it — struggles with life’s simplest challenges. The show tries to present the man behind the cult, the clichés and the kitsch.
Since its world premiere at the Theater an der Wien in 1999 — and following 500 triumphant performances in Vienna — the show has been seen by 1.9 million people in seven different countries (Germany, Japan, Sweden, South Korea, the Czech Republic and Hungary).
A revised version of the show, created in 2015, will be performed in Shanghai.
Venue: Shanghai Culture Square
Address: 597 Fuxing Rd M.
