Tel: 6219-9230Cube 鈥 flavors of FranceWhen owner Charles Carrard moved to Shanghai he couldn't find a French restaurant providing authentic food at reasonable prices. So the Cube was born. Chef Philippe Morisson created a menu that is fine but not pretentious. Not to be missed is the popular 68-yuan crazy plate including scrambled eggs with truffle and mixed lettuce, or the 130-yuan happiness plate which includes foie gras, scallops and smoked salmon. The 700-strong wine list is carefully chosen and a large portion (around 400 kinds) are available by the glass. Prices for a glass start at 30 yuan, while a bottle costs from 100 to 80,000 yuan. Cube is decked out in a very modern way, with sleek glass and steel. It is a cozy place to stop for a glass of wine and a decent destination for a no-frills lunch or an authentic French dinner. And ladies, come over on Thursday nights where you can get free bubbly all night.

Aniseed is one of the most famous, serving full-flavored Vietnamese and French-influenced dishes. Vietnamese vermicelli, with seven kinds on offer, selects pasta as the base and then adds the chef's homemade fish sauce to the customer's choice of pork or beef, crushed peanut and mixed vegetables. Aniseed home special vermicelli is priced at 36 yuan. Another favorite is the crunchy French baguettes baked daily, which cost from 22 yuan. For main dishes, soon hock fish and Samoan crab are recommended. The price is not fixed as the crab and freshwater fish are imported from Vietnam. The vibrant combination of fresh flavors and the clean, modern environment makes Aniseed a great venue for lunch, dinner or afternoon tea. An average dinner costs between 80 to 100 yuan per person.
