Yanping Road's lofty aspirations

In the heart of Jing'an District near Jing'an Temple, the Loft 98 complex on Yanping Road is a one-stop shop for indulgence and healthy living in a former industrial complex. There's wine from Italy, sushi that's certified not to endanger bluefin tuna, delicious vegetarian fare and many more treats, healthy and otherwise. If you decide you've had too much of a good thing, you can visit a boutique fitness club on the second floor to help balance the calorie intake, work out or chill out.

D Vino

Interest in good wine has led to the opening of numerous wine stores and wine bars, one of the latest being the wine bar D Vino. Wine bottles line the shelves and the wine list is impressive. As expected, it offers a wide range of Italian wines from all regions of Italy, plus selections from France, Argentina, Chile and Australia. The atmosphere is homey and Mediterranean, a place for classic pizza lasagna and pasta. The set lunch, including a glass of wine or other beverage, costs 45-70 yuan (US$7.05-10.97). For dinner, guests can choose from a variety of dishes, such as antipasti for 90 yuan, fried gnocci with bacon and herbs 65 yuan and taglierini for two for 188 yuan.

Sushi Abuse

Sushi Abuse is believed to be the first Japanese restaurant in Shanghai with a sustainable vision and menu. It does not use endangered species such as bluefin tuna or eel. The restaurant deals with selected suppliers that are certified to comply with eco-friendly fishing norms. The interior design is supper cool and the food is authentic. On the second floor is probably one of the largest dining tables in the city, accommodating as many as 40 guests. The Infinity Menu features a wide selection of sashimi, sushi, sukiyaki hot pot, and other creative dishes. During a promotion period, the Infinity menu is priced at 248 yuan per person with unlimited appetizers, sashimi, hot pot and sushi combo. The lunch set costs from 28 yuan to 80 yuan.

Kush

Healthy and delicious vegetarian meals are on offer, from a menu created by a yoga master and influenced by Western dishes. The yoga master and chef has 25 years of experience turning every dish into an aesthetic and delicious experience. It's well-known in the vegetarian community for its tasty wraps, such as the Kush Caprese Wrap for 69 yuan. The signature dish, the Lentil Burger for 59 yuan, makes it easy to skip the beef. There are freshly prepared drinks such as Sweet Lime Ice Tea for 15 yuan and a Chilled Chai Smoothie for 25 yuan. French wines are 59 yuan per glass. The bright and cosy cafe was designed by RéNnovate, letting diners watch the preparation behind a glass wall and see all the fresh ingredients under glass. It delivers.

One Wellness

One Wellness boutique fitness club is unlike most non-hotel gyms targeting the mass market. Founder David Barr promotes all-round healthy living and creates a place where you can both work out and chill out.

Situated in a restored warehouse on Yanping Road, the original timber and the roof remain intact, while varied Technogym equipment is sleek and modern, including the latest models from the Italian maker.

There are free Internet stations and wifi, an extensive library of wellness books and magazines and a comfortable place to read and relax. A bamboo-lined patio is a nice place to enjoy healthy gourmet snacks, fresh fruits and smoothies. There's a therapy area, yoga, tai chi and more. One year's membership is 8,256 yuan and 7,056 yuan which excludes peak hours 5pm to 9pm, Monday to Friday.
