In memory of Elizabeth Taylor

ELIZABETH Taylor (1932-2011) was one of the world's most famous film stars. She was twice awarded an Oscar for best actress and was named a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2000 for her acting achievements.

This year's Shanghai International Film Festival will include her films "Cleopatra," "Blue Bird" and "The Only Game in Town."

The 1963 epic drama "Cleopatra" depicts the life and struggles of the young Queen of Egypt, Cleopatra VII. This controversial and expensive production received much attention both on and off cameras, and the splendid stage set was truly a feast for the eyes.

The epic film won four Academy Awards. "The Only Game in Town" tells the story of a Las Vegas showgirl's love affair with a lounge pianist played by a young Warren Beatty. It was the final film by director Georges Stevens, who won two Academy Awards for best director - "A Place in the Sun" and "Giant." He also directed the "Diary of Anne Frank" and is considered one of the all-time great directors.

Meanwhile, "Blue Bird" is an American/Soviet fantasy film by George Cukor from 1976. It tells the story of peasant children who are led on a quest for the Blue Bird of Happiness by the Queen of Light.
