Shanghai International Film Festival evolves over the years
1993
THE 1st Shanghai International Film Festival opened, attracting film producers and actors from more than 30 countries. The Golden Goblet Award was set up at this festival. The international jury panel was chaired by Chinese film artist Xie Jin, and also included celebrities like Paul Cox from Australia and Oliver Stone from the United States.
2004
The 7th Shanghai International Film Festival officially launched the International Film Forum and the Asian New Talent Award to discover and support talented young filmmakers.
2006
The 9th Shanghai International Film Festival put forward the "3MS strategies," namely stressing Mass and Star, Market and Service, and Mechanism and Structure. The festival hopes to become an incubator for China's film industry. For the first time the festival invited a foreigner, Luc Besson, to head the jury panel for the Golden Goblet Award. This festival set up a forum for Sino-Europe film co-productions, and presented a short film exhibition by students for the first time.
2007
The 10th Shanghai International Film Festival launched the International Film Market, CFPC (China Film Pitch and Catch) and Co-FPC (Co-production Film Pitch and Catch) programs. The Golden Goblet Award jury panel became more international and influential.
2008
At the 11th Shanghai International Film Festival, SIFF's function of discovering and fostering young talented filmmakers started to take shape. Young talents had many opportunities to realize their film dream through the CFPC, Co-FPC, Asian New Talent Award and International Student Shorts Awards.
2011
The 14th Shanghai International Film Festival established the Mobile Film Festival due to the rapid development of new media. It also launched a campaign to restore 10 classic Chinese films.
