The art of decor - The bright stuff

WHAT better way is there to celebrate spring than by filling your home with bright features and vibrant color?

To get you in the mood, here are my top interior design tips, sure to leave your home feeling as fresh as an April breeze.

For starters, why not use your own talents to revamp your space, creating a unique personal space?

A hand-made piece of embroidery can transform a room, while a tired old piece of furniture can be reinvented as an art work if given a unique covering.

Once seen as the preserve of moms and elderly women, knitting has in recent years become a trendy pursuit - both for clothing and home furnishings. So why not get the needles clicking away and produce some hand-made cushions and footstool covers?

While knitting is a traditional art, more contemporary inspiration can also inform your home decor.

Street-style graffiti, applied directly to your walls, is a beautiful way to share a message with your family and friends.

Imagine a corridor covered in poetry rendered in vivid tones. Experiment with bold blocks of colors to create a memorable and individual impression on everyone who enters your home.

Eye-catching options include fluorescent shades, and for spring, try sunny yellow stripes. Vertical or horizontal, they will seem to alter the perspective and dimensions of your room.

Sherbet shades are perfect for spring - for everything from bedclothes to tea cups - bringing freshness and calm to your home.

And, as spring sunlight reveals smudges and dust, make sure that your crystal is sparkling; and what better than by cleaning it in a green way? Rinse your crystal pieces in a solution of one part white vinegar to three parts warm water.

Your crystal will not only sparkle, but will smell fresh.

And for a final touch to bring spring into your home, splash out on plenty of vibrant flowers and lush plants.
