Bag Hermes secrets

IF you've ever been curious about how a Hermes silk scarf or its iconic Kelly bag are made, now is your chance to find out. The iconic luxury brand is staging its "Festival des Metiers" in Plaza 66 on Nanjing Road W. until Tuesday.

The interactive exhibition - a celebration of Hermes tradition of luxury craftsmanship - features craftsmen from the 175-year-old fashion house giving demonstrations of how iconic items such as silk scarves, watches, shirts and leather goods are made. Among facts and figures, visitors learn that a standard Hermes saddle takes 25 hours to produce, including Hermes' signature saddle stitching techniques.

Skilled artisans also demonstrate how the classic Kelly and Jypsiere bags are made - the handle of a Kelly bag alone takes five hours to produce - and show that up to 600 hours of work goes into producing a silk scarf.

Open 11am to 7pm in the lobby of Plaza 66, admission is free.
