Fab bags of style
It's time to update your wardrobe for the new season and investing in accessories is one of the easiest and most inexpensive ways to start. A handbag en-vogue instantly helps to change the same outfit from drab to fab ≠-- and most importantly, you don't really have to spend a fortune on it.
We have checked out new collections from some relatively affordable luxury brands such as French handbag expert Lancel and American leading handbag manufacturer Coach, as well as popular high-street fashion chains in the city to come up with three major purse trends of the season.
Casual, chic clutches
The clutches are must-have fashion items this autumn/winter. They are no longer strictly to be used as evening bags but are available in more spacious sizes and casual chic styles so that you can carry them to work.
Italian leather house Furlaís new collection uses materials in earthy tones, such as coarse, bark-like grains, natural full-grain nappa leathers and glossy or oiled suede, reflecting the relationship with nature.
The highlight is a maxi clutch bag with double pocket made of suede with exquisite rutile-colored crocodile print calf leather details. Large brass accessories with white gold galvanic gilding give the bag a polished look.
Convertible clutches with a chain design are popular fashion items thanks to their practicality. They can be easily transformed from clutch purses to shoulder bags.
Fendiís classic Baguette, for example, are available in various sizes, from mini to maxi, and a variety of bright, cheerful colors. If you are not able to stretch to a designer price tag, then consider a convertible clutch from high-street fashion chains like Mango. The black oversized clutch bag features a classic chain design. It never goes out of date.
Bursts of color, even in winter
Black and grey no longer dominate the palette of winter fashion. Instead, neon colors and glazed, metallic hues prove to be extremely popular with designers this season.
Coach presented at a recent fashion show in Shanghai its new collection featuring a burst of colors even for winter. Popular seasonal hues include indigo blue, grass green, deep purple, coral and ginger.
The new "Kristin" line is clean and effortlessly chic, without carrying a bold logo but instead a sleek turnlock closure -- a focal point to the collection. Along with beautiful colors, the collection stands out with a fashionable chain link, some alternating between pewter and gold and others with a tortoiseshell-like finish.
British high-street retailer Marks & Spencer's autumn/winter collection for women also features lots of beautiful and cosy purples, sea greens, burgundy and smart check prints, not only in clothing pieces but also in accessories. The burgundy carry-it-all tote of patent leather is both practical and eye-catching, ideal to match with a daily work outfit to add a splash of sparkle.
Luxury revival themes
Lancel's latest collection was inspired by the Orient Express, the fading symbol of luxury travel linking Paris and Istanbul. "Premier Flirt," the brand's classic drawstring collection, also takes new looks onboard for the adventurous season. Drawstring bags made of velvet, fur, fringes, patchworks and exotic leather, in both classic hues like red and black, and seasonal colors such as violet and light brown, are available in the historical leather maker's newly launched concept store in Shanghai in the Westgate Mall. Another iconic French brand, Longchamp, introduces "Gatsby," a new line featuring three minimalist, almost masculine shapes inspired by the decadent glamor of the Jazz Age and the androgynous beauty of its heroines. It is loved by fashion's "It" girl Agyness Deyn, who was spotted carrying it shopping with friends in New York City.
