Kate Moss in Mango heist
IT has become a trend for fashion houses to showcase a custom-made film before the actual catwalk show. Chanel did it. Dior did it. And Mango, the Spanish high-street fashion brand, also did the same at its latest autumn/winter 2011 fashion show in Paris earlier this month.
The film, titled "The Great Escape," stars supermodel Kate Moss and acclaimed American fashion photographer Terry Richardson and is directed by Richardson himself. In the movie, Moss and Richardson burgle a Mango store wearing Terry Richardson masks and then "escape" across the streets of Paris in a van, while Moss styles herself in Mango's latest collection.
The end of the short film was, to everyone's surprise, not pre-recorded but broadcast live as the model and photographer arrived at the Pompidou Centre - the show venue. They took the museum's famous "escalator in a tube" to reach the mirror-reflected runway set up on top of the building.
As they sat down, a fleet of top models, led by Brazilian supermodel Isabeli Fontana, were lifted to the runway to showcase the brand's new collection, which was designed to pay tribute to the ever-chic elements of the classic French women's wardrobe, with a particular focus on the timeless contrasts of masculine-feminine pieces.
The collection featured strong, structured silhouettes, a classic palette of black, white and red and a rich mixture of materials including wool, chiffon, denim and leather. There was also a great amount of glamorous evening gowns made of sexy, transparent fabrics and studded with glittering crystals, sequins and feathers.
The after party at Georges, the restaurant of the iconic museum, featured a mini concert by 22-year-old Belgian singer Selah Sue.
