Limited edition fashion luxe for Expo

WHILE nations are showcasing the best of their art and culture at the World Expo, some luxury fashion houses are also paying tribute to the event by releasing limited editions designed especially for the Expo and Shanghai.

The items include clothing, shoes, handbags, watches and all kinds of jewelry pieces. Some feature the intriguing Pudong skyline, others are inspired by Chinese elements such as the Chinese dolls and the tiger. (This year is the Year of the Tiger in the Chinese lunar calendar.)

Most of them are sold exclusively in Shanghai or in China.

Chanel

The latest collection of Chanel, the "Paris-Shanghai" collection, was created by Karl Lagerfeld with inspirations coming directly from the city. It includes chic dragon motif jewelry, a cheeky take-out container and cute Chinese-doll evening bags.

Salvatore Ferragamo

Luxury-art partnerships between Chinese contemporary artists and international luxury houses are increasingly common, but one of the most eye-catching is the "Xue Song for Ferragamo" limited-edition.

They stand out with their use of bold colors and vivid images of tigers, symbols of courage and energy in China.

The collection includes two day bags, small leather goods and a T shirt, which are sold in selected Ferragamo stores in China.

Loewe

Fashionable women ought to carry environmentally friendly shopping bags, according to Loewe, a leading Spanish leather goods maker. In response to the Expo theme "Better City, Better Life," it has released a limited edition coated canvas shopping tote. The bag features baroque painting patterns and natural calfskin handles with meticulous stitching design.

The use of super soft, waterproof cotton canvas ensures the tote is an "everyday bag," light enough to be carried anywhere. It is available in Loewe stores on the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Swatch

Swatch has selected 50 pieces from its previous watch collections with artists to be showcased in the Switzerland Pavilion at World Expo.

They include timepieces designed by Swiss artist Alfred Hofkunst, American artist Keith Harring, French musician Jean-Michel Jarre and Japanese film director Akira Kurosawa.

The Swiss fashion watch manufacturer has also created the collectable World Expo Shanghai Swatch for the Switzerland Pavilion. Bold, bright and symbolic, it is inspired by the pattern of the flag of Switzerland.

Dior

Re-opening its Shanghai flagship store at Plaza 66 during the Expo, Christian Dior has released a collection of limited edition pieces, all in Dior blue and only available in that store. It includes a Dior phone, a square scarf, sunglasses, Lady Dior handbag, evening bag and jewelry.

Coach

The American leather goods manufacturer has launched a limited edition line of handbags and accessories, only available in Coach's flagship store on Huaihai Road M. The Madison Floral collection has two unique colors: mysterious deep violet and luxury bronze. Feminine floral patterns are skillfully embroidered on the handbags, coin purses and clutches.

Prada

The Oriental Pearl TV Tower, symbol of Shanghai, is featured on the latest Prada tote bags among a capsule collection launched by the Italian luxury fashion house to celebrate the Expo and "the 21st century lifestyle."

The collection includes sportswear, shoes and accessories such as key chains and bracelets. Apart from the futuristic TV tower, they also feature intriguing nature-inspired patterns such as dainty flowers and leaves, butterflies and white clouds.
