Plaza 66 debut for classy labels
BOTH Lanvin and Valentino have found new homes in Shanghai at Plaza 66, the city's prestigious luxury shopping destination.
Lanvin's new store, launched last Friday with a private cocktail party, is the oldest French couture house's first store on the Chinese mainland. Under the creative direction of designer Alber Elbaz, it quietly exudes a relaxed sophistication that is the brand's recognizable characteristic.
As devised by Elbaz, the new store concept mirrors his collections, combining precious materials with industrial elements. Two walls on one side are framed with shelving displaying exquisitely made jewels, shoes and handbags.
The store houses full Lanvin collections, from women's and men's ready-to-wear to accessories as well as Lanvin's signature perfume.
Valentino's boutique on the second floor of the shopping complex features an area of 150 square meters selling a complete range of products from women's ready-to-wear pieces to the brand's most acclaimed evening gowns, plus handbags and clutches to shoes and sunglasses.
The fashion show was held at the opening ceremony which attracted celebrities such as renowned Chinese actresses Sun Li and Huo Siyan.
Models strutted the Italian fashion house's latest collection for spring/summer 2010 through which its designer duo Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli approach the label's heritage style from a new angle.
Apparently they enjoy keeping the dresses short and sheer. The two designers have used in the collection soft, romantic tones of nude, rose, lavender, gold and gray, while swirling organza around the body and embroidering tulle dresses in laces and metal paillettes.
There was a fitted leather jacket featuring laser-cut rosettes and a trench coat in red with ruffled details around neck and shoulders.
Meanwhile, the first collection of star designer Phoebe Philo for Celine has arrived in the brand's Shanghai and Beijing stores in Plaza 66 and China World, respectively. The collection is sold exclusively in 16 stores around the world.
A wardrobe of classics, the collection features ready-to-wear pieces and accessories which are interchangeable investment items "more function than trend." Philo has introduced new proportions and fabrications made to stand the test of time.
The key pieces include a bonded nappa leather coat, man-tailored jackets and tapered trousers and double-face cashmere capes, as well as handbags and shopping totes in shiny lizard and "vintage" python, peep-toe pumps and thick metal heel sandals with stitched soles.
