Red carpet dazzles
THE ongoing 65th annual Cannes Film Festival is more than just a big event for movie makers and fans. It's a chance for celebrities to show off their style and fashion sense. Shanghai Daily picks some of the stunning looks from the red carpet in Cannes.
"Desperate Housewives" star Eva Longoria chose a frilly Marchesa column gown in blush tulle with a dramatic ruffled skirt and train. Naomi Watts had a similar peachy-tone Marchesa gown, only with a smaller tail.
Chinese actress Fan Bingbing tapped into ancient fashion for the opening of the film festival. She wore an elegant pale strapless gown designed by Christopher Bu, which was inspired by a porcelain vase. To compliment the dress, she styled her hair like a maid in the Tang Dynasty (618-907).
Other stars choose simple designs with interesting details. Freida Pinto's bold neon-green Atelier Versace gown was dusted in Swarovski crytals, with gold-wave detailing at the waist. Paz Vega's black-and-white Stephane Rolland gown created a long, lean silhouette, with bold cuts in the waist and front to show off her figure.
Jury member Diane Kruger sported an transparent Jason Wu cocktail dress. The violet gauze loosely draping from the right shoulder adds femininity.
Actresses Virginie Ledoyen and Lana Del Ray both chose simply-cut strapless gowns.
