5G Mate 30 launched in China

Huawei Technologies, the world’s No. 2 smartphone brand, kicked off its 5G flagship model Mate 30 in the domestic market with prices ranging from 3,999 yuan (US$571).

The company aims to consolidate its market position with the new model, despite facing technology ban in the US, Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group, said in Shanghai yesterday.

In the first eight months of 2019, Huawei’s smartphone sales grew 26 percent year on year. But its overseas sales were affected by the US ban.

But Huawei’s global sales “recovered” in the latest quarters and it is expected to remain the market leader in China, said Jia Mo, an analyst of researcher Canalys.

Huawei unveiled its Mate 30 Series, the world’s first second-generation 5G smartphone.

However, Apple doesn’t have 5G in its latest models.
