As cars hold sway, many expats adopt bike riding
UNTIL not so long ago, the bicycle was the most popular form of transportation in China, with an average of two per household in the 1990s. Due to rapid economic development, the “Bicycle Kingdom” is now seeing huge growth in the use of cars and motorcycles. Riding a bicycle is becoming more of an environmentally friendly lifestyle. Shanghai Daily photographer Dong Jun focuses his lens on expats in the city who are adopting this healthy way of getting around town. He aims to capture 100 expats in the city, and we will share with you his photos on a biweekly basis.
