Dancing in the shadows
DANCERS from US-based Pilobolus presented a performance in silhouette in Taipei, featuring an adult version of Alice in Wonderland when the character Dog Girl embarked on a whimsical adventure through a dream world.
The dance piece, “Shadowland,” is written by Steven Banks, head writer of the household cartoon “SpongeBob SquarePants.” Musician David Poe is the mastermind behind the music.
Unlike traditional Chinese shadow play, dancers come out behind a screen in Pilobolus’ dance. The dance troupe was established in 1971 by several college students through an experiment at Dartmouth College.
