IFC Mall gets royal treatment with French antiques

THE atrium of Shanghai IFC Mall in Lujiazui is now hosting an exhibition of over 100 18th century art objects and craft items on loan from Kraemer Gallery Paris. The exhibition, entitled “French Royal Castle,” is scheduled to run until November 14.

Some of the rare items on display include a bamboo table made in 1780, a pair of decorative flower pots dating to around 1700, a portrait of King Louis XIV and a Louis XV jewel box.

Another interesting artifact on display is a Chinese-Latin dictionary, published in Paris in 1742. The volume was compiled over 40 years and includes some 80,000 Chinese-character entries. Only 250 copies were ever made.

Established in 1875, the Kraemer Gallery is the oldest family-owned gallery in Paris. It specializes in 18th-century furniture and objects d’art.

The gallery counts the Rothschilds, Henry Ford Jr, Christian Dior and Karl Lagerfeld among its clientele.
