Influential Kandinsky retrospective
ART enthusiasts in Brazil will have an opportunity to take a tour of the works of Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky, and learn about the roots of his ideas, his main influences, and his links with spirituality and popular culture.
A new exhibition called “Kandinsky: Everything Starts from a Dot” provides insight into the creative world of one of the most influential 20th-century painters, known as the founder of abstractionism.
This is the first time an exhibition like this has been staged outside Europe. There are over 150 items on display including paintings from throughout his career, along with religious symbols, clothing items and objects used in shaman rituals — a recurring theme in Kandinsky’s work — illustrations, pottery, woodcuts, lithographs, and works by fellow and influencing artists.
The exhibits come mainly from the Russian Museum, St Petersburg, as well as paintings from seven other museums in Russia.
Born in Moscow, Kandinsky would structure his paintings based on a notion that colors and gestures convey an inherent message.
