London - Floral winners

THE Trailfinders Australian Garden by Flemings - based around a flower-like glass studio - won the Best Show Garden award at the annual Chelsea Flower Show in London, which ended yesterday.

The Japanese An Alcove (Tokonoma) Garden, with its delicate design based on an elegant traditional tatami room, took the Best Artisan Garden prize, said a website statement.

The Best Fresh Garden went to After the Fire, based on the idea of forest regeneration.

To celebrate the 100th anniversary, some 100 gnomes decorated by singer Elton John, actress Helen Mirren, "Downton Abbey" screenwriter Julian Fellowes and other celebrities took up residence by the Great Pavilion at the heart of the show. They are up for auction on eBay, as one of the appeals to raise 1 million pounds (US$1.5m).

An orchid sculpture by British artist Marc Quinn will also be sold by auctioneers Sotheby's.
