London - The world, reimagined
Britain’s Royal Academy invited seven architects from around the world to transform the main galleries of Burlington House by a series of large-scale installations.
They were all set to a challenge: to give a new perspective on architecture. As an answer, Chinese architect Li Xiaodong divided and opened up the enclosed space with walls made of stout branches. Japanese architect Kengo Kuma filled two blacked-out galleries with lit woven bamboo that not only poised a striking visual impact, but also emitted aromas of tatami and cedar.
Chilean duo Mauricio Pezo and Sofia von Ellrichshausen created a timber belvedere with the access of four spiral stairs, each inside a massive column that holds the platform.
Visitors are invited to touch, climb, walk on and experience the reimagined world.
“Sensing Spaces: Architecture Reimagined” runs through April 6 at the Royal Academy in London.
