Myanmar - 67 die in ethnic strife
MYANMAR state television reported Friday night that 67 people had died, 95 been injured and 2,818 houses were burned down from Sunday through Thursday in seven Rakhine state townships. Earlier the death toll in the ethnic clashes had been reported as 112, but this was later revised.
About 75,000 people remain in refugee camps following an outbreak of violence in June between the Buddhist Rakhine and Muslim Rohingya communities in which at least 90 people were killed and more than 3,000 homes were destroyed. Curfews in place in some areas have been extended, but tensions remain high.
