Oprah picks slavery tale
Oprah Winfrey’s latest Book Club selection is Sue Monk Kidd’s “The Invention of Wings,” the story of a slave girl and a slave owner’s daughter in South Carolina.
The book will be out in January and can be pre-ordered for Christmas.
“These strong female characters represent the women that have shaped our history and ... give us a new perspective on slavery, injustice and the search for freedom,” Winfrey said.
Kidd is the author of the million-selling “The Secret Life of Bees.”
