Shanghai - Duke ... Paris-style
THE Laurent Mignard Duke Quintet debuted in Shanghai last Saturday night at Shanghai Center Theater, invited by 2013 Shanghai Spring International Music Festival.
Well-known French trumpeter and conductor Mignard founded the quintet in 2003, and they have come to be regarded as one of the world's best interpreters of the work of legendary American jazz musician and composer Duke Ellington (1899-1984) -- delivered in a particular Parisian style.
The concert included classic Ellington works, including "Take the 'A' Train," while Chinese song "Rose, Rose I Love You" also featured in the set, especially for the Chinese audience.
