Taipei - Paper panda army makes its presence felt
Sixteen-hundred paper pandas make a stir in Taipei as they appeared in several landmarks like Dajia Riverside Park, Xinyi Public Assembly Hall, near the skyscraper Taipei 101 and National Theater Concert Hall.
A “flash mob” of pandas in various poses and facial expressions appeared between February 20 and 24. At each appearance, other paper animals like moon bears, Asian elephants, white dolphins and farmland green tree frogs posed with the pandas. Each animal is an endangered species.
The pandas also appeared on Friday at Citizen’s Square, and will later inside the National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. Two hundred paper moon bears, specially made for the Taipei tour, joined the army of pandas.
The exhibition, titled “Pandas on Tour,” is an appeal by World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) to treasure and protect endangered species and their habitats. French artist Paulo Grangeon is the creator of the exhibition.
Made with eco-friendly paper mache, the 1,600 pandas refer to the number of living pandas.
The panda tour has already visited Paris, Lyon and Bordeaux in France, as well as Berlin, Hamburg and Frankfurt in Germany.
Taipei is its first stop in Asia.
The exhibition continues through the end of March.
