Terracotta soldiers part of exhibition in Hungary
TWO life-sized Chinese terracotta soldiers are on show at the Budapest Museum of Applied Arts. The two soldiers are part of the exhibition “Treasures of Ancient China” that opened on Friday at the museum.
One of the soldiers is a kneeling warrior with a sword in his hand, while the other stands upright. This marks the first time in 28 years that Hungary has exhibited pieces from the terracotta army of Chinese emperor Qin Shi Huang (BC 259-210). The terracotta army was first discovered in 1974 outside Xi’an in northwest China’s Shaanxi Province.
The exhibition, which runs through April 19, will include over 150 works of art, such as those dating back to the period between Neolithic to the 18th century. Most of the exhibits come from the Shaanxi History Museum, the Nanjing Municipal Museum and the Chengde Palace Museum.
