3 looks for your festive fun
HERE comes the holiday season aka ... the best shopping spree season of the year! It's time to spend our hard-earned money on beautiful dresses, fancy fur coats, expensive heels, glittering jewelry, cute little leather goods ? The reason? Because we all want to look fabulous at the upcoming parties, and we want to hear people tell us "wow, you look great!"
Shanghai Daily has picked up three holiday looks, each featuring a distinctive style, to inspire your holiday wardrobe shopping. It's your choice to look captivatingly glamorous, drop-dead sexy or effortlessly cool - while always, always staying very fashionable.
The Cool Look
Who said you have to wear dresses to the parties? The masculine, unisex look for ladies has been popular for a while - think of the Chloe runway in recent years. At the recent Lanvin for H&M fashion event in New York, a female model came out in a total look from the men's collection and she looked effortlessly cool.
To copy the look, a fitted tuxedo is the must-have piece. Pair it with a crisp white shirt and a pair of tailored jogging pants. You will also need some interesting accessories such as a bow tie or a cuff bracelet. To add a touch of femininity to the look, add some lady-like jewelry pieces such as vintage rings and earrings.
The Glamorous Look
It's simple. All you need to do is to pick up the right dress. While everyone else is wearing an LBD (little black dress), it's easy for you to stand out in a colorful one, or a bling-bling one - the black and red printed dress with hand embroidery from Escada's latest resort collection simply has both.
When you are wearing a dress like this, you don't need any extra accessories other than a pair of matching heels and a simple, elegant clutch. It's even better to choose one that has shoulder straps, so you can use it either as a clutch to look formal, or as a shoulder bag when you need your hands to grab a glass of champagne or pick up some finger food.
The Sexy Look
Dressing up helps modern women to feel confident and sexy, says Harris Chan, creative director of leading Hong Kong fashion house Moiselle. He suggests young ladies boldly mix all kinds of fabrics, from feather-light laces to chunky fur, to create a trendy, layered sexy look for the holiday.
Fur has made a big comeback this season. Fur coats and vests were prominent on the runways of luxury fashion houses in Paris and Milan. Local luxury fur manufacturer N.E. Tiger says its fur business is so good this year that people in northeastern China grab expensive fur coats in their shops as if they were buying vegetables in the market! For those who don't wear fur, there are also plenty of faux-fur alternatives available in high-street fashion chains such as Zara and Mango.
Last but not least, don't forget to add an eye-catching statement necklace to complete the look, especially when you are wearing black from head to toe.
