Art, beauty of floriculture can be learned in city

AS an art of indoor decoration and arrangements, floriculture has been enriching people’s lives for thousands of years. It reflects people’s pursuit of beauty and love of nature.

It’s hard to know the exact origin of floriculture because it probably occurred extremely early in human history. A widely accepted theory holds that Western flower cultivation originated in Egypt, and the Oriental floriculture began in China.

Floriculture plays an important role in people’s lives, as flowers are used in various social activities, weddings and ceremonies to create and enhance the atmosphere. Shanghai Daily outlines three places in the city where you can learn all about floriculture.

F•UR Florist Concept Center

Located on the first floor of Takashimaya on Hongqiao Road, F•UR is both a professional training center of floral design and a high-end flower shop. To introduce floral design to more people, the center provides training courses for those who want to create a more beautiful life. Professional tutors who have rich experience will teach trainees florist techniques, from bouquets, flower baskets and gift bows to wedding flowers and vase flowers. There are many interesting and surprising details to be found in this beautiful art.

The training courses are renewed monthly, and the flowers are also adjusted according to the season.

Grace Floral Design

It takes the floriculture training system from the Netherlands. You can learn both classical theories and modern creativity from the courses. The techniques taught are the same as those used in Europe, and the style of works closely follows the global trend.

The training courses are also designed for the test of DFA (Dutch Flower Arrangements), as the training center will help students participate in the test in Taiwan to get a certificate to be a qualified floral designer or teacher.

Meanwhile, Grace Floral Design provides various courses, including an amateur course for those who are just interested in this art, a children’s course to relieve pressure of studies and improve patience, and a flower shop course for those who want to open a flower shop but know nothing about floral design.

Mark Floriculture School

Founded in 2003, the school now has three campuses — in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen. It’s the biggest professional floral design school in the country. The Shanghai campus was established in the city center in 2010.

The school’s course for flower shop owners and amateurs who want to learn floral design systematically is the most popular. After the study that lasts half a month for six hours a day, students should be able to operate a middle or high-end flower shop independently and acquire the skills of a senior floral designer. Each campus of Mark has its own flower shop so that students can do internships in the shop to gain practical experience.
