Escape city bustle in Pudong leisure street

Related Photo Set

Biyun Road is a prominent leisure and entertainment street for Green City international community in the Pudong New Area, providing a diverse selection of restaurants, cafes, fashion and lifestyle boutiques and pet shops for nearby residents.

The road is as-yet not well-known by people from outside of the neighborhood, but it’s an ideal weekend destination if you want to escape the hustle and bustle elsewhere.

Shanghai Daily made a visit to the road amidst the pleasant fall weather, stopping at a pet shop, and relishing delicacies in a cafe and a steakhouse.

Yasmine’s Steakhouse and Butcher Shop

The family-oriented steakhouse serves quality meats at reasonable prices in its combined restaurant and butcher shop. It also has an additional butcher shop located in Puxi.

One of its biggest highlights is the “Devil Steak,” a 2-kilogram, juicy imported Porterhouse served with 10 slices of baguette bread, mashed potatoes, creamed spinach and salad. Any diner who finishes the dish alone in one sitting can get his or her name and picture on the wall of fame as well as 1,000 yuan (US$164).

Another challenge offered is to finish a 3kg “Monster” burger (198 yuan) containing an 800g imported patty, a 600g bun, three fried eggs, tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, ketchup and mayonnaise within one hour. Finish it alone, write your name on the wall of fame and get the burger for free.

The restaurant can help plan private and corporate events or parties. It also does on-location barbecues year around.

  Simply Life Bakery Cafe

Simply Life is a cozy European-style bakery and cafe opened a year ago by the owner of Simply Thai restaurant in Xintiandi. An ideal spot for breakfast, lunch or just a coffee, Simply Life — along with other eateries in the chain — has a factory providing the goodies.

The shop stocks a large selection of baked goods and pastries, plus salads and sandwiches. Here you can find good croissants — very French in style — and biscuits from 30 yuan to 48 yuan. Cakes and fresh juices are also perfect for a delicious breakfast or just a snack.

Customers can choose the ingredients for their salad — using organic vegetables — and the type of bread for sandwiches.

Simply Life has a very pleasant outdoor seating area.

  Mignon Boutique

If you love pets, then you can’t miss this one-stop shop for four-legged friends. Mignon Boutique opened five years ago and its owners welcome customers with their marvellous mascot, Kannkann — a beautiful golden retriever. The owners say many expats with pets live in the area and that’s why, after six shops around Shanghai, they decided to set up their latest on Biyun Road. Mignon Boutique stocks pet food, toys and just about everything a pet needs.

Services include a pet beauty salon that charges about 70-90 yuan for small animals and 115-350 yuan for larger ones. Each animal has its own “beauty case” so it has its own products and there is no sharing with other four-legged customers. The shop also provides membership cards ranging from 1,000 yuan to 5,000 yuan.

The pet boutique also has a pet training center in Changshu City in Jiangsu Province and has a pet sitting and walking service.

And as well as all these pampering services, Mignon Boutique sells pets as well, with prices from 10,000 yuan to 20,000 yuan.
