Get a fresh look for warmer days
After the gothic- and grunge-inspired moody shadows and dark lips of fall/winter 2013 comes a new vision of beauty. A bright orange lip paired with dewy skin, full brows and a wash of white on the eyes — the look for spring/summer 2014 is fresh, feminine and simply alive!
Orange pouts
Orange lips struck the runway once again this spring. At Rag & Bone and Prabal Gurung, models wore a matte, electric orange lip, while red and orange shades were mixed together to create a stained finish at DKNY. Creatures Of The Wind brought us a satin orange lip and a “very, very fresh” see-through orange lip was seen at Sophie Theallet. Be it matte or glossy, though, the bold pouts were always worn with clean, luminous skin and minimal eye makeup.
To quickly achieve the vivid hue without sacrificing moisture? Apply matching eyeshadow over your lip color to make it pop.

Brows, brows, brows
Strong brows continue to rule the runway this season and different variations of the look were spotted everywhere. While full yet natural brows were abundant at Richard Chai, Tom Ford, Giorgio Armani Prive, Jil Sander, Marni and Stella McCartney, others pushed the look a little further. At Erdem, brows were squared off and filled in with a gray cream shadow for a smoky, androgynous look. At Hache, models rocked “Teddy boy chic” with brows brushed towards the center of the face and coated with burgundy brow gel. Finally, kicking it up a notch were the gold brocade brows Pat McGrath created at Dior with glue, metallic theatrical paint and glitter, along with the thick, grease-painted arches by Dick Page at Celine.
To take the look from runway to everyday, brush your brows up and away from the center of the face. Fill in sparse areas then run a spoolie over the brows to soften any harsh lines. Remember, powders are great for a softer look and pencils offer a more precise, filled-in effect.

Edgy white shadow
While it is no surprise to see white clothing on spring/summer runways, white eye makeup made quite a statement this season. Bands of graphic white liner contrasted a bare face at Kenzo for an edgy look while Altuzarra presented a combo of matte white eyeshadow and red lips to create refined modernism. At Tibi, eyes were rimmed with a shimmery white cream shadow that extended towards the temple for a cat-eye effect and eyes dazzled in a soft, ethereal glow of white and pink at Alice + Olivia.
Avoid using opaque whites, which tend to look harsh. Instead, apply the color with a large, soft brush for a subtle wash, as suggested by Estee Lauder Creative Director Tom Pecheux.
