As Spring Festival approaches, locals who are staying in town are thinking about what to do during the festival.
Out-of-town tourists also will be looking for some fun. As a big metropolis, Shanghai has a lot of options.
We will show you some different places to visit during the holiday. You can find your favorite, whether enjoying modern art or folk culture.
Jimmy’s World at Joy City
Well-known illustrator Jimmy Liao from Taiwan designed a show called “How to Own a Corner,” on display at Joy City shopping mall from 10am to 10pm every day. Through Jimmy’s comics and words, young people can always find a corner that belongs to them.
On the first floor, there’s a dreamland with horses and apple trees. The third floor is the “World Center” and circus stage, and on the seventh floor the show will lead visitors to review the world from a different angle.
During the exhibition, visitors can also collect points by shopping in the mall to exchange gifts and souvenirs of Jimmy’s works.

Art exhibition in Pudong
Leading contemporary artists from across the country and the United States are invited to put traditional folk art skills into contemporary artworks in celebration of the Year of Horse. All the uniquely made artworks are exhibited at various corners at Life Hub @ Jinqiao, free for everyone who visits the plaza to view.
Paper-cutting is used by Wang Lihua from the US to present intricate horse designs in 3D form. Renowned contemporary artist Bian Pingshan chooses porcelain, a significant art form in Chinese history, and combines it with steel and wood to form a “V” shape with horse heads on both ends. Qiang embroidery patterns, made by women from earthquake-stricken Wenchuan of Sichuan Province, can be seen on horse dolls. Other artworks include horses made of glass beads, wood sculptures and rattan-plaited horses.

OMAGO in Jiading
A merry-go-round is hung in the air at Life Hub @ Anting in Jiading District to celebrate the Year of the Horse, and it turns the shopping complex into a world of fairy tales, with childhood memories, fantasy and fun.
Five cardboard horses in different colors, all handmade by young artist Zhou Beili, are hung overhead in the central courtyard and fly up and down as music starts to play on the hour. Kids can play with tangram puzzles on the ground and form different shapes. Postcards of the Year of the Horse are also offered for people to send New Year’s wishes via a mailbox that’s right there.

Temple fair at Guyi Garden
A grand temple fair will open in Guyi Garden of Jiading District on Friday and will last throughout the Spring Festival to bring the most original folk culture of Shanghai to tourists.
Folk artists will show their special talents, such as making candies in special shapes, paper-cutting and lion dances. Tourists can also enjoy various local foods and snacks at the fair. Folk art performances will start on Saturday.
