AS the summer is approaching, to let children have a substantial and meaningful summer holidays has been a tough mission for many parents. To keep them stay home with television and video games is apparently not a good idea, but what else?
Something you might don’t know is that in Shanghai, there are many vocational schools which are open to the public for free in the summer holidays. All the schools will organize various activities to teach participants practical vocational and life skills.
Here we will introduce three of them to you. Expat children can apply for these free activities as well. But since there is no language service on site, it’s recommended to come with a friend or parent who can speak Chinese to do the interpretation.
Making a soap yourself
We use soap to wash hands and clothes every day, but do you and your children know how soap is made? At the Shanghai Industrial Technical School, there is a mini soap-making production line where children can observe the whole process of soap is made by modern machines and operate on the production line as well.
Shanghai Industrial Technical School is strong in digital control and mould design. Teachers there will guide your children to add different kinds and colors of raw soap materials into the mould and see a bar of soap come out at the end of the production line.
