Make the day special for guests of all ages

Anyone who has — or has spent time around — children knows how bored and restless they can become during adult functions. Amid all the preparations that go into planning an unforgettable wedding, if there are youngsters taking part in your special day, don’t forget to prepare some kid-friendly distractions in advance. Here are some suggestions to consider as your nuptials draw near.

Disposable cameras

Disposable cameras are bound to be a sure-fire hit with many youngsters. Of course, the images captured on film by some budding photos could make lovely additions to your wedding album.

Bubbles

A bottle of bubbles can enchant even the fussiest toddler. In the hands of slightly older children, encouraging them to blow bubbles at key moments can add a lovely fairy tale touch to any wedding.

Art supplies and games

During the reception, some perfect tabletop items include coloring and activity books as well as paper, crayons, pencils and colored markers. To keep kids’ attention focused, you can invite them to design wedding cards for the bride and groom. For older children, puzzles and board games also make great distractions.

Treats

Kids of all ages love candy. Be sure to have some goody bags on hand with chocolates and other confections. Or, to spoil both children and their sweet-toothed parents, why not splurge on chocolate fondue or a selection of custom-ordered cupcakes?

Outdoor activities

For weddings and receptions where outdoor space is available, pre-planned activities like treasure hunts or other games can make the day a real treat for youngsters. Of course, many wedding and entertainment venues also have areas equipped with children’s play equipment.

Children’s entertainment

If your budget and other considerations allow, hiring professional clowns, musicians and face-painters can take the edge off keeping young guests occupied. Or, for adults with talented children of their own, why not give them a stage and let them preform in front of an audience?
