Marriott downtown delights

SUZHOU Marriott Hotel, open for just four months, is a hub of laid-back luxury with all the facilities for conferences, and the amenities for just taking it easy.

The hotel is between the city central district and newly developed Suzhou Industrial Park, blending traditional glamor of Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, and the thriving atmosphere of the industrial park.

The lounge is both relaxed and impressive. High-backed cushioned chairs and clustered settings provide relative privacy in the open space. Colorful cushions are placed invitingly on the long sofa in the central hall.

The rooms are spacious and warm in lighting and color, and they feature a traditional elegant design. Basic rooms offer a work desk, sofa and coffee table.

Rooms provide pleasant views of traditional streets and charming houses.

The bathroom is almost as large as the main room and offers a very comfortable shower cubicle.

Guests can eat their fill. Restaurants provide a range of formal and informal dining options and can cater many events.

The Asia Bistro features three major open kitchens preparing local specialties, grilled food and cold dishes. It's an attractive and comfortable buffet area.

Entering through a tea lounge, guests find a formal Chinese restaurant named Man Ho, seating 136 in the main area and offering five private rooms. The rooms are elegant and majestic. The doors resemble ancient wooden palace doors with largecarvings and fittings.

Next to the main table is a tea area where guests can chat before dinner is served. It features authentic Huaiyang cuisine prepared by chefs from Yangzhou, the home of Huaiyang cooking. The glassed-in kitchen lets guests watch the preparation.

Italian restaurant Alto Vivo has a family-friendly environment and an extensive wine list. Italian chefs work in an open kitchen and guests can pick up their favorites at the counter.

The fitness center includes a gym, spa and sauna, as well as an indoor swimming pool. Palm trees on the grounds lend a feeling of the tropics.

The hotel provides conference rooms, ballrooms and executive lounges for business conferences, and offers "happy hours." The business center features a living room area designed for coffee breaks during conferences.

The hotel focuses on the quality of services.

"Consistency is the key word for the best service," says Jerry Miao, the hotel general manager. "We strive for the best and have a high retention rate among employees."

The hotel offers personalized service; employees remember a guest's name and greet him or her by name on return visits.
